There is no convenient time to face a defeat, just as there are no top athletes who like to lose. But there are losses that are important because they have a lasting impact.
Without a handful of defeats, I would not have been able to achieve the biggest victories of my career.
Through the painful memories of defeat, we (the players, trainers and staff) have been able to do the right thing. We have been able to identify, eliminate, and overcome errors of the past.
In the meantime, this culture and this mindset have also shaped the view of my entrepreneurial activities and how to deal with employees. It is crucial for future success.
The DFB team has this mindset deep in their culture as well, so I still have faith in what the team will bring to this World Cup.
